Recyclemania
What is Recyclemania?
RecycleMania is a friendly competition and benchmarking tool for college and university recycling programs to promote waste reduction activities to their campus communities. Over an 8-week period each spring, participating colleges report their numbers for recycling and trash collected each week, which are then ranked in various categories. While we like to promote recycling throughout the entire year, RecycleMania is a fun way to rally our campus to reduce and recycle even more!
We engage campus member with educative and interactive displays. Over the years, we have had activities on reusable cups, zero waste, clothing waste, recycling pledge and recyclable items!
We work to promote more recycling on campus. We had many fun events including Spin the Wheel Trivia, Recycle Weigh In, and Free Throw Fridays!

1. Why do we participate in Recyclemania?
To promote the concept of sustainability, and encourage our community to be diligent about sustainable options.
2. Who can get involved?
Everyone on campus can and is encouraged to participate in our events.
3. How do I get involved?
We have several events each year. You can volunteer for an event. Send us an email at sustainability@siu.edu for more information volunteering with us. Also, remember to always recycle where applicable. Check out our recycling page for more on what to recycle: Recycling at SIU.
4. How do I follow/track how we are doing?
The results for our diversion rates are entered into our profile weekly on the Recyclemania's website.
5. What else can I do to help?
Join our Saluki Green Action Team to receive weekly tips via email on how to take action.
