The Saluki Food Pantry provides food assistance to students in times of need, helping them to stay in school and meet their educational goals. Food pantry is available to any current student with a valid SIU ID.

Mission Statement: Develop and sustain a food pantry on the campus at SIU Carbondale to serve food insecure students. The food pantry will provide an opportunity for SIU students to serve other students and engage in conversations and solutions around food insecurity.

Location: 
The Saluki Food Pantry is located on the Lower Level of the Student Center. The easiest way to the food pantry is to take the stairs/elevator, next to Starbucks, down to the Lower Level. Once on the Lower Level, walk straight ahead and you’ll see it on your right. Look at the Floor Map for more information.

2024 Spring Semester (Starts Tuesday, January 16, 2024)

  • Monday: 10:00am - 2:00pm
  • Tuesday: 12:00pm - 4:00pm
  • Wednesday: 12:00pm - 4:00pm
  • Thursday: 10:00am - 2:00pm

Want to donate?
Awesome! Food donations can be brought to the Saluki Food Pantry when it’s open. After hours, donations can be taken to the Sustainability Hub located on the first floor or Student Center Administration Office located on the second floor.

Here are some data points from August 2023 to today from the pantry!
  • 50% of students using the pantry are international students.
  • 49% of students using the pantry are graduate students.
  • 64% of students using the pantry live off-campus.
  • 75% of students using the pantry do not have meal plans.
  • They have currently served 1,135 students and dependents from Aug. 2023 to today.
    • The highest number of students and dependents served in an entire school year is 1,366 which was in 2016, the first year the pantry was open. Based on our data from this year, they are projected to surpass that number.
  • Since opening in 2016, they have served 6,695 students and dependents.
