Join the Office of Sustainability and Office of Student Engagement for a night of creativity and sustainability style!

April 11, 2025, Salukis will be Trashing the Runway! The event is called Salukis Got Style: Repurpose the Runway. The Office of Sustainability is celebrating Earth Month with a design competition challenging students to create fashion items entirely out of found materials that would otherwise be discarded. This will be a competition with 3 prize categories. Students can compete individually or as groups. We encourage RSO’s to get involved!

Recycled Runways is an environmental education initiative that promotes recycling, reusing, and sustainability through fashion. The purpose is to raise the environmental consciousness of the public in a fun and positive way.

Participants have about one month to complete the design, with the final garments showcased at the STEAM FEST on Friday, April 11th. We will host the runway fashion competition show from 6:30-8:00 p.m. during STEAM FEST. While Sustainability staff and volunteers are able to provide advice, we challenge you to source, design, and create a fashion item entirely on your own, using everything from discarded dog food bags, plastic shopping bags, and vinyl banners, to bubble wrap, tea bags, wallpaper samples, recycled cardboard, and more. An entire garment design is not required; but if you’re up to the challenge, we’re excited to see the creativity. The finished designs will be judged at the runway competition show and judges will vote afterward, announcing the 3-category winner.
