Hello Saluki Green Action Team! Last week we looked at how you can use digital documents to save paper. No matter how committed we are to saving paper, there are times when printing is essential. You can still be more sustainable by recycling your ink and toner cartridges.

Did You Know:  SIU Carbondale offers both an ink/toner recycling program (for empty cartridges) and a sharing program (for full cartridges)? Find more information about each program here: Toner & Ink Cartridge Sharing and Toner & Ink Cartridge Recycling. In the last fiscal year alone, the ink and toner sharing program sponsored by the Sustainability Office has resulted in a savings of $15,700. (Source: Sustainability Dashboard)

Take Action Now: Students, talk to your department's faculty and administrators about our program and ask them to take part in the recycling program if they do not already. You can also take action yourself by dropping off your empty cartridges at the Innovation and Sustainability Hub for recycling. They can also be recycled at office supply stores and you might be able to gain rewards for doing so!

Sustainability Fellow, Andrew Aaflaq packs up empty cartridges to be shipped out and recycled.
