Green Office SLEUTHS program

Interested in taking actions toward greener office actions? The Green Office SLEUTHS's program is a collaboration between the SIU Sustainability Office and the Advanced Coal and Energy Research Center (ACERC) aimed at taking action toward a greener campus one office at a time!

Upon joining the Green Office SLEUTHS program, you will be guided through a Student Led Energy-Use Treasure Hunt (SLEUTH) with a trained student. Topics covered include energy use, recycling and waste reduction, printing and paper procedures, and more.

Your effort serves as an example to others on campus- SIU is committed to a green campus! As an office, you are committing to incorporate actions into your daily office procedures. After completing a consultation, the student SLEUTH will develop a personalized plan of action that suits your office. Based on a point system, you will be able to advance levels and see your office's progress.

Why is the Green Office SLEUTHS program important?

SIU Sustainability and ACERC are invested in establishing a culture of responsibility toward our campus impact and collective action toward using our resources wisely. The Green Office SLEUTHS program aims to promote awareness of sustainability and energy conservation throughout campus and develop a program that can be utilized for years to come.

How is an office scored?

Your Green Office SLEUTH will go through the checklist and determine which activities are applicable to your office, which actions your office is currently working on, and which actions that you would like to set as a goal. After determining your office's actions, your SLEUTH will calculate your score and a plan of action. Your score is calculated based on total points received.

How will the contact be maintained with our SLEUTH?

Each office will designate their self-appointed Green Representative. This Green Rep will receive e-mail updates about the program from their SLEUTH, be responsible for sharing any pertinent information with their office team, and send in any completed checklists or important updates to us. We expect that the Green Rep will be the main form of communication.

Does the certification have to be renewed and when?

We expect that office's continue to progress as able. This program is still in beginning stages, and we have not determined specifics yet.

Who is contacted if our office has questions or concerns about certain tasks?
