Hello Saluki Green Action Team!
It's that time in the semester when the pace shifts rapidly. We hope your finals are going well and that you enjoy your summer. We will be sending out posts less frequently, but can't wait to pick back up in the fall!
Did you know: Carbondale is recognized as a Tree City USA/Tree Campus USA by the Arbor Day Foundation?
Take Action: Let nature help reduce your stress levels during finals week. Tree Mend Us on May 8 is a great way to celebrate the end of the semester! Activities include:
- Learn about tree identification
- Interpretive walks
- Camp fire talk with Steve from Touch of Nature
- Tree planting ceremony
- Paddling on the water at Evergreen Park
Tree Mend Us
When: Wednesday May 8, 2019 at 4:00 pm.
Where: Evergreen Park, Pine Tree Shelter, 1205 W. Pleasant Hill Road.
Hosted By: The Carbondale Park District, Touch of Nature, Keep Carbondale Beautiful, Green Earth, and SIUC Recreational Sports and Services.
Event Focus: Free event focusing on sustainable communities, education, and conversation about the nature environment and our relationship with it.
Activities: Paddling, campfire, refreshments, and pictorial history of the recovery of woodland areas.
Join us! Tree identification hike at 4:15 pm, tree planting ceremony at 5:00 pm and paddling at 5:15 pm.
Benefits: Great opportunity to bring the entire southern illinois community together and share our experiences with the 2018 derecho and sharing progress in restoring some of our damaged ecosystems.
