Did You Know: The average person in the United States throws away 70 pounds of clothing and textiles every year, all of which ends up in our crowded landfills? Although post-consumer textile waste accounts for only 5% of total landfill space, the EPA estimates that the U.S. currently only recycles 15% of clothing. That means 85% of clothing that could be repurposed ends up in the landfill. Source: Council for Textile Recycling
Take Action Now: There are many places in Carbondale that accept clothing donations. Donate unwanted items today! Here are a few options to consider:
The Career Closet at the SIU Multicultural Resource Center
The Thrift Shop 215 N. Illinois Ave, Carbondale
The Women's Center 610 S. Thompson St.
Goodwill 1145 E. Main St., Carbondale
Join Heartland Community Swap here or other Facebook groups that enable you to see or giveaway things you no longer need.
